Acknowledging The Major Diabetes Causes

By Debra Thomson

Diabetes is a disease that is involving more and more people every day. While scientists think the disease only affects a minute percentage of the population it seems as though almost everyone know at least one individual who is afflicted by the condition. In recent years medical professionals have noticed there is more to "coming down with" Diabetes than simply being born with the gene that makes it happen. The fact is, medical professionals are beginning to realize that diabetes can even be interrupted if you are careful. Here are some of the bigger causes of diabetes and what you can do to control them.

Do you drink a lot? Stop it! Heavy drinking has been linked to diabetes especially in older men. Alcohol and its empty calories and lots of fat can adversely effect all the different parts of your body. It doesn't just affect your liver function. Alcohol can also raise your cholesterol levels. Heavy, long term driking has been shown to cause high blood pressure and diabetes. You can drink a glass of wine a couple times a week without worry though. Drinking a few hours every night can be very harmful though. You should seek treatment if you have a problem with drinking.

Does your physician even warn you about having high levels of triglyceride in your blood? This is worrying because high triglyceride levels are a major cause of Type 2 diabetes. Triglycerides are fats. Acquiring fatty blood is an indicator that diabetes is not far away. Do what you can to cut down on the level of triglycerides that you find in your blood. The most excellent way to do this is to reduce the amount of sugary and junky foods you eat and replace them with healthier foods.

We've known for a long time that people who are overweight or obese are more likely to contract diabetes. Thanks to new developments there are a lot of options out there for people who struggle with their weight and who want to keep diabetes from taking hold. Getting your weight under control can be achieved if we work at it. Most people will see good results by modifying their diet and getting regular exercise.

There are number of factors within and out of your control that can cause diabetes to take place. Causes, such as genetics, gender and heredity are things you will never be able to control. Other factors, such as high blood pressure or diet are things that you can completely have control over. One of the better ways for you to keep the diabetes causes from taking over is to maintain the best health you can. Even the small choices, like what you snack on during the afternoon can be a trigger for whether or not you get diabetes.

Be sure to maintain your healthiness as best you can and hopefully you'll be just fine with nothing to stress over
